Great Blue Heron

Synopsis: Widespread nester in small colonies in tall trees near water throughout the state. Nest early and forage over a wide area, thus detected at many areas during the later breeding season where they may not actually breed. Most notable are the records from Baker, Grant, and central Malheur County (nesting).

Relative Detectability: Easily seen, but some colonies are in conifers at remote locations, making confirmation of nesting difficult.
